EASY CRAFTING: Make your own molds!

 

This is one of those projects that I bet you've always wanted to try, but thought it was too much of a hassle. Well, once you see this tutorial, you'll say what I said: "No way. That is the easiest craft I've ever made, why did I wait so long?" I'm talking about making your own molds. There are a variety of ways, and I'll eventually cover all of them, but for now, I'm starting with the easiest process - two part silicone.

This is what you need - a box of Silicone Putty. It comes with two little plastic tubs, one is white and the other, purple. It's kinda like resin - mix the two and they activate. Pretty simple. 

I quartered the contents of each container so I could make four molds. You roll each one to the same size, then mix them together completely. Next, roll it into a ball and press on a flat surface. 

You'll only have a few minutes to embed your items. I used Mexican milagros! Let it set for about 10 minutes, then remove the items. TIP: Be careful not to press your items too far into the putty because it can poke a hole through to the other side. Your mold will still work, but you'll have to line with duct tape at the bottom.

And...it'll look like this. You're supposed to let it set for 24 hours before you use it, to make sure that it's fully cured.

See what I mean? It's super simple! And think of all the possibilities! I used two-part resin, and made these! I didn't add color because I wanted them clear. That way I can paint them from the front or the back. I can also drill a hole at the top if I want. Don't they look like little ice cubes? Coming next week - I'll show you what I did with them!
