NYC Crafty Chica Event: Crafty in the City, August 1st!

I'm arriving to New York City a night early to fulfill a dream I've always had - to have a crafty event at my FAVORITE shop in the city - Love Shine.

The very first time I visited NYC, it was in 2002 (somewhere around there) and I came across this fabulous, happy boutique bursting with color and kitsch and ll things glittery. They sold all handmade Mexican accessories. The name alone gave me goosebumps - LOVE SHINE!!! The merch? Not imported goods, but mostly all created and/or designed by the shop's owner, Mark Seamon. As I browsed that day, he worked on a bag in the back of the shop. He rose his hand from behind his sewing machine and politely yelled out for me to let him know if I needed any help. Love that!

Since then, I visit Love Shine every time to go to the city. These days, Mark's colorful bags are manufactured and sold all over the world. The shop has moved to a larger space in the east village and they host all kinds of parties, fashion shows and sidewalk sales. They just celebrated their 15th birthday! I once asked Amy Sedaris if she heard of Love Shine and her answer "Oh yeah! They have the best selection of silk flowers in all of New York!"

With every book I've released, I've always thought about having a signing there - or just some kind of crafty event, Mark has always been more than welcoming, but the timing never quite gelled.

Until now.

FINALLY it's happening! I'm hosting a crafty night of make-and-take craft projects and most exciting - Maya and Jeshua (a.k.a. Rhinestone Graffiti) will be there to perform an acoustic set of music. I'm pretty sure one of my BFF's Alexa (Swell Designer) will be there too. We're going to have oodles of giveaways, and all around fun times for three hours!

Oh! And the first 25 guests receive a FREE jar of Crafty Chica Glitter!

Maya and Jeshua were so excited about performing, they made promotional graphics!

We'll be making these matchbox shrines and ruffled t-shirt pins.

If you live in the city, please come hang out!
