Lowe's Designer Challenge: My interview with Chef Marcela Valladolid

Last week I went to New York City to cover a very cool event called the Lowe's Designer Challenge. Lowe's had three celebrity designers decorate an outdoor space that reflected their personality. My assignment from Lowe's? To gather inspiration and bring back DIY ideas for my blog to share with all of you! Over the next couple weeks on my blog and over at iLoveToCreate, I'll show you how you can recreate some of these artful patio features! I also interviewed the different designers and asked them for tips and tricks.

NOTE: Please visit the Lowe's Facebook page to vote for your favorite room, the winning designer receives $50,000 for their charity! Special thanks to Studio Displays for their help!

First  up is Chef Marcela Valladolid from The Food Network. She hosts the show Mexican Made Easy!

Now, more about the event!

It was held at the Chelsea Arts Tower in NYC.
Lowe's had all kinds of magazines with gobs-o-DIY ideas. I made a list two pages long of things I want to make and blog, so get ready!!

This was an amazing succulent wall that Chef Marcela made for her space. She said succulents are her fave and she evens plays classical music for them! Look for a Crafty Chica tutorial this summer!

The rooms were facilitated with the help of Studio Displays.
This was interior designer Elaine Griffin's space. She used layered lattice in different designs and glued ceiling fixtures on them for art statements. I told her I wanted to try and add pictures inside the fixtures! Yup, I'll have a tutorial on this one too. As well as an interview with her!

Best selling author and columnist, Danny Seo had a really cool space. He designed a patio-friendly movie theatre. More on this to come. In the meantime, here is a chalkboard wall he made.

They served us yummy appetizers, including this one. I loved the presentation of the cactus in the water, so fresh and summery!

Go be shiny,
Kathy :-)
