CRAFTY CINEMA: Water for Elephants-inspired Circus Brooch

Water for Elephants is one of those novels that seeps under your skin and stays there. Centered on depression-era circus life, it is teeming with adventure, suspense, breathtaking scenery and a highly forbidden romance. No wonder it became an instant best-seller that eventually went Hollywood. Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon star in the lead roles do the characters justice! I went with my daughter to see it last weekend and we both left the theatre starry-eyed in bliss...
Here's how to make a canvas brooch inspired by the book and film!

    •   Printout of vintage circus image
    •   Pinback
    •   Small piece of mat board or wood

    Instructions

    1. Cut canvas into three circles in graduated sizes. Give each one a different type of edging: fringed, zigzag, and curvy.
    2. Use Crafty Chica® Red marker to add red circus tent stripes to the largest canvas circle. Use a different color marker to add decoration of your choice to the medium canvas circle to create contrast.
    3. Lay canvas circles onto paper towels. Use Tulip® Glitter™ Spray Paint Spray to spray each circle with a different color glitter. Let dry.
    4. Use Crafty Chica® Extreme Embellishment Glue to adhere canvas circles together creating a flower. Let dry.
    5. Use glue to affix the printed circus image to a piece of mat board or wood and cut to size. Let dry. Adhere to the center of the flower.
    6. Frame printed image with squiggles of glue and then sprinkle with Crafty Chica® Chunky Glitter Goddess Gold. Let dry. Shake off excess glitter onto paper towel.
    7. Using Tulip® Glam-It-Up™ Cordless Heat Setting Tool, apply crystals of your choice on brooch, where desired.
    8. Glue pinback to back side.
